Tips to Properly Care for Your Piano:

Cleaning

Avoid using any type of cleaner or polish that contains silicone. Silicone can find it's way into the pins and prevent the piano from maintaining a good tune.

Placement

A piano should never be placed in direct sunlight, near a heating/a.c. duct, or on a wall that backs to an oven. This will can cause problems such as drying of the wood, which will change the pitch as well as damage the wood.

Do not oil any part of the piano. If something is squeaking or does not move smoothly, please tell the technician when he/she comes to tune the piano. A piano requires special lubricants that most tuners carry with them.

How Often To Tune

How often your piano should be tuned depends on how often it is used. Churches, music teachers, or people who play in a group use their pianos often should have it tuned every 3 months. Casual players should have their painos tuned every 6-12 months depending on the intensity of playing or how sensitive your ear is. A piano should not go more than a year without being tuned even if it is just for maintenance.
